BlackBerry in the Arab Reaping blocking criticism of obama

Regulation of the United Arab Emirates (UAE), which forbids the BlackBerry service in the country, getting criticism from the United States President Barack Obama.

Through the Ministry of Foreign Affairs spokesman PJ Crowley, Obama criticized the blocking of BlackBerry service in the Gulf countries could cause a dangerous precedent because it considered to limit the freedom of information.

"We are committed to promoting the free flow of information. We think it is an integral part of an innovative economy," Crowley explained in an official statement quoted by the Toronto Globe, Tuesday (07/03/2010).

However, the UAE authorities claimed the ban was based on legitimate security demands, because data are routinely transferred to the BlackBerry server and Research In Motion (RIM), which are located overseas.

Uncle Sam's Affairs also expressed concern over the controls which have also been echoed in Saudi Arabia, which recently announced a plan to ban Blackberry services smartphone because it can not monitor or restrict access to data out.

But RIM has responded to threats to boycott the Middle Eastern country with a guarantee of data and information from BlackBerry customers will always be safe, although sent to servers abroad.
